About Lake Bunyonyi

Lake Bunyonyi is geographically situated in the south western part of Uganda in kabale district close to Rwanda boarder along kabale -Kisoro road, which come into existence as a result of magma that flew from the erupted mount Virunga obstructive the water flowing from river ndego and hence creating a dam which later on became a lake which is presently known as lake bunyonyi.

The beauty of Lake Bunyonyi is unexplainable, the stunning lake is surrounded by birds that sing praises to the creator day and night hence creating a beautiful sound of relief around the lake. Lake Bunyonyi is also designed with eye catching vegetation cover around filled with ever green blush, hills filled with terraces and beautiful islands that honestly make the lake extremely thrilling to sight.

Lake Bunyonyi has the supreme good-looking scenic view for the nature lovers, honey moon visitors and all other audacious visitors due to the cool breath throughout the year.

Ecology

Lake Bunyonyi has been named one of the safest lakes in Africa.  There are no crocs, hippos, or risk of bilharzia. Instead, the island is home to over 200 species of birds. Grab a notepad and binoculars and spend hours discovering everything from weaver birds to grey-crowned cranes. It’s the perfect place for bird enthusiasts.

If you’re wanting to spend an afternoon on the water spotting marine life, you’ll be pleased to hear that African clawless otters and spotted-necked otters reside at the lake. There are also various frogs, fish, and shrimp.

How to get to Bunyonyi

To get to the Lake you will need to first make your way to Kabale from Kampala, a journey that can take up to eight hours long. From Kabale town Lake Bunyonyi is about 25 minutes drive. Some tourists prefer using the Kigali, Rwanda route that takes about 1.5 to 2 hours long to reach Lake Bunyonyi in Uganda.
