Day 1: Arrival
Upon arrival at Entebbe airport, your tour driver/guide will short brief on your birding safari then transfer you to Triple M Suites for lunch and relaxation before heading to visit Entebbe Botanical Gardens in the afternoon where different species of birds like lizard buzzard, woodland African pygmy, and Pied kingfishers are found. Additionally be on the lookout for Black-headed weavers which include Vieilot’s black backed, yellow backed, golden breasted, spectacled as well as orange weavers among many sunbird species. Dinner awaits at your guesthouse before an overnight stay there.
Day 2: Bird Watching in Mabamba Wetland Sanctuary
Have an early breakfast and set off with a packed lunch for a whole day of birding at Mabamba Swamp. The swamp is famed for its Shoebill population among others: African Jacanas, Lesser Jacanas; White-breasted Bee-eater; Blue Bee-eater; Little Bee-eater; Purple Swamphen; Lesser Moorhen; Malachite Kingfisher; Pied Kingfishers etc. On your way to Lake Mburo National Park, stop at the Equator for a water experiment and visit some craft shops. Kaku Swamp may reveal birds such as Grey-crowned Crane and Spur-winged Goose . On arrival at Rwakobo Rock, have dinner and spend the night.
Day 3: Birding in Lake Mburo National Park – Boat Cruise
You should start off your day by birding/game drive at Lake Mburo National Park because it is home to approximately 330 bird species and numerous mammals. This park has topis, impalas, buffalos and zebras that can be seen. Bird species such as the shoebill stork, papyrus yellow warbler or saddle-billed stork among others should be looked out for here. Take a boat ride on Lake Mburo after lunch to see more wild animals and birds. Go back to Rwakobo Rock for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Bird watching at Queen Elizabeth National Park
Begin the day with a nature walk around the lakesides looking for early birds like hyenas or leopards. After breakfast drive over towards Queen Elizabeth National Park through the breathtakingly beautiful rolling hills of Mbarara and tea plantations in Bushenyi where you can indulge in some local delicacies. Arrive at Park View Lodge in time for dinner where you will spend the night
Day 5: Bird Watching in Queen Elizabeth National Park
Following breakfast, make your way to Kasenyi Plains for a bird watching adventure. Among the species you will find are the Black-winged, African Reed and Greater Swamp Warblers alongside Black-chested Snake Eagles as well as Temminck’s Coursers. After having lunch in the lodge we go for boat ride through Kazinga Channel where we are likely to see birds like African skimmer gray-headed gulls or pied kingfishers addition you’ll have opportunities of spotting buffalos elephants hippos as well as alligators finally dinner will be served at Park View Lodge with an overnight stay.
Day 6: Birding in Kibale National Park
Go back to Kasenyi Plains in the morning for bird watching; this time targeting those that were missed yesterday. The Martial Eagle, African Hoopoe as well as Rupell’s Griffon Vulture should be looked out for. Following this board a vehicle towards Kibale National Park which is expected to be reached by afternoon. Dinner and overnight remain at Kibale Guest Lodge.
Day 7: Birding in Kibale National Park – Bigodi Swamp
Begin your day with breakfast before proceeding into Kibale National Park in search of Green-breasted Pitta. Kibale National Park is also known for its extensive number of chimpanzees so there are lots of trekking activities around here. After lunch at the lodge continue to Bigodi Swamp for an evening filled with birding excitement. The Swamp holds more than 200 birds such as Great Blue Turaco, Scarlet-chested Sunbird and Yellow-billed Barbet among others. Come back to the lodge at dinner time where you will spend the night.
Day 8: Kibale National Park – Entebbe – Departure
Have breakfast then go bird watching on the way back to Entebbe in transfer vehicles. In Mityana stopover at Enro Hotel for lunch before moving onto the airport for departure flight.
