The 7 Days Birding Tour in Uganda offers a deep immersion in the many different habitats that are found within Murchison Falls Conservation Area, which is known for its rich variety of birds and unique biomes within Guinea Congo. In Murchison Falls National Park, Royal Mile and Albertine Escarpment you will find lush savanna grasslands that provide unique experiences when it comes to birdwatching; each area has its own distinctive features.
Both game drives and boat trips allow you to see several species of birds such as savanna forest ones, water ones as well as endemics in Albertine Rift. The park’s undisputed highlight normally spotted between January and March when they are more active is the Shoebill.
You can expect to see iconic species including Marabou Stork, Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, Secretary Bird Black-bellied Bustard among others when driving in the plains. Nearer to river thickets and woodlands, one can search for Swallow-tailed Bee-eater (Red-throated), different types of kingfishers (Woodland Kingfisher, Giant Kingfisher) among others.

- Spend whole day exploring different types of birds found in Murchison Falls National Park; this means both flying and non-flying types.
- Attempt traveling around the northern part of Murchison Falls National Park and also take boat trip on Victoria Nile.
- Birding through the Albertine Escarpment, searching for diverse species.
- Bird the Royal Mile, known for its concentration of bird species.
- Return to Kampala, birding enroute, with a chance to spot grassland birds before departure.
Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport, Birding in Entebbe Areas
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be greeted a Frero Adventures representative who will drive you to your accommodation in Entebbe. If you get there early, you can start bird watching at the Botanical Gardens which are famous for their sightings of Great Blue and Ross’s Turacos, numerous Cuckoos, Kingfishers, Sunbirds, etc. Overnight in Entebbe.
Day 2: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park, Birding along the way
Depart for Murchison Falls National Park after breakfast. While driving through areas around it have some en-route birding stops where you get a chance of seeing White-Crested turacos among other species stop here. In Masindi town have your lunch before continuing on to the park. As soon as arrival takes place we go up Murchison Falls for birds hunting mainly known for Pels Fishing Owl, Rock Praticoles and Night Jar sightings.
Day 3: Bird Watching in Murchison Falls National Park
Begin early with birding in the diverse habitats of Murchison Falls National Park. Focus on forest species such as Puvell’s Illadopsis, Grey and Yellow Longbill, and others like Green Sunbird and Crested Guinea Fowl. Return to the lodge for meals and relaxation. Afternoon optional activities include game drives or relaxation.
Day 4: Northern Sector of Murchison Falls National Park
Today’s adventure includes a morning drive towards the Delta area, renowned for the elusive Shoebill stork and other water birds. Spot nocturnal birds like Nightjars and Owls during the early drive. The game drive offers opportunities to see Lions, Giraffes, and other wildlife. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Birding through the Albertine Escarpment
Depart early towards Masindi, birding along the Albertine Escarpment. Look out for species such as Black Billed and Spot Flanked Barbet, Kingfishers including the rare Shining Blue Kingfisher, Warblers, and other forest birds. Lunch at a scenic spot before continuing birding activities. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 6: Bird the Royal Mile and Transfer to Busingiro
Start the day with birding at the Royal Mile, known for specialties like Cassin’s Hawk Eagle, Narina Trogon, and various Tinkerbirds and Barbets. After a picnic lunch, transfer to the Busingiro sector for more birding opportunities. Look out for Ituri Batis, Lemon Bellied Crombec, and other woodland species. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 7: Return to Kampala, Birding Enroute
Today, depart for Kampala with birding stops along the way. Enjoy sightings of grassland birds and other species as you journey back. Depending on flight schedules, you may arrive in Kampala in the late evening.
