Culture and Gorilla Adventure in Uganda
Uganda is blessed not only with nature and wildlife but also a rich cultural heritage that fascinates. Four significant kingdoms and numerous chiefdoms, each having its own customs and way of life, give Uganda a rich cultural experience. This tour lets you discover the Pearl of Africa where you can appreciate a variety of cultures as well as visit historical places such as the Source of Nile.
Day 1: Bulange and Lubiri Palace
Mengo trading center will be your pick up point for a trip to Bulange where you will visit Buganda’s parliamentary seat. Its colonial structures are an important part of Buganda governance history. Then go to Lubiri Palace, once the home to Kabaka Mwanga, and learn about its background. Besides it, you will also visit Rubaga Catholic Cathedral and Kabaka’s Lake. In the same vein, have dinner and sleep at Tal Cottages or Namirembe Guesthouse.
Day 2: Kasubi Tombs
Kasubi tombs are burial places of some kings from Buganda where one will understand more on royal adventures in this region. Thereafter stop by Wamala Tombs which is another historic site in Uganda. In the evening, cultural music shall be performed by Ndere Troupe dancers for your enjoyment. To round off your trip however, spend the night and have your meals at either Tal Cottages or Namirembe Guesthouse.
Day 3: Ssezibwa Falls
Visit the Uganda Museum early in the morning to see displays of the country’s cultural history. Continue to Ssezibwa Falls, a historically significant and scenic location. Take in the local folklore and take pleasure in observing birds. Eat and stay at Namirembe Guest House or Tal Cottages.
Day 4: Katereke Prison and Transfer to Mbarara
Visit Katereke Prison, built by Kabaka Kalema, and learn about its historical significance. After lunch, transfer to Mbarara, the heart of the former Ankole Kingdom. Explore the town and learn about the Bahima clan and Ankole cattle. Dine and lodge at Lake View Resort Hotel or Classic Hotel.
Day 5: Lake Mburo National Park
The park has a lot of wildlife hence you can take a wildlife drive to get more insights on the different types of antelopes. Crocodiles, hippos and different types of birds can be seen at Lake Mburo when sailing around it. You can also spend the night at either Mantana Tented Camp or Rwonyo Camp which is much cheaper than Mantana Tented Camp.
Day 6: Salt Lick and Return to Kampala
Visit the salt lick viewing platform in the morning to see animals. For bird watchers, a walk along the Rwizi trail to Rubanga Forest offers excellent birding opportunities. Look out for species such as the mosque swallow and Ruppell’s long-tailed starling. Return to Kampala to conclude the tour.
