4 Days Queen Elizabeth Wildlife Safari
Day 1: Pickup and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park – Evening game drive
Our Guide will pick you up very early from your Hotel in Kampala or airport in Entebbe to begin the journey to Queen Elizabeth National park. Queen Elizabeth is located in the western part of the country which is remarkable for its beautiful scenery, rolling hills and other physical features which resulted from the formation of the East African Rift Valley. Watch out for the local people working in their gardens or doing business in the market places along the roadside. You will also notice many herdsmen tending to the intriguing long horned Ankole cattle. Your driver will take a quick break at Kayabwe where you will take pictures of the ever-bustling area. The line that cuts through this planet divides it in two. You can stand with your legs placed in the two hemispheres of the globe at once.
The subsequent stop-over would be that of Igongo cultural center after continuing the journey. As you approach the park, catch sight of beautiful scenery such as the majestic Rwenzori Mountains, crater lakes, and wildlife as well as East African Rift Valley from afar. This shall be the time for a guide to be most talkative as he/she tells everything about what makes all these things exist.
You will arrive late afternoon when they will lead you to your hotel for refreshments. After having refreshments or changing clothes, an evening game drive at Kasenyi plains enables spotting warthogs, buffaloes, elephants, lions, small primates among others and varieties of antelopes among other animals.
Day 2 – Game drive
Get up early for heavy breakfast as you wait to be taken for the morning game drive. The morning game drive allows you to spot the early risers and nocturnal animals like leopards going back to their den. Queen Elizabeth national park has remarkable landscape compared to even the Murchison Falls National Park.
You will marvel at the savanna plains, crater lakes, swamps, rivers and woodlands. The Rwenzori mountains can be seen from almost every part of the park. All these physical features attract a variety of wildlife including buffaloes, lions, elephants, leopard, giant forest hogs, waterbuck, bush bucks, the Uganda Kob and Topis among many others.
After the morning game drive, you will go back to hotel for rest and lunch before proceeding for the boat cruise at the Kazinga Channel. This boat will provide a perfect platform for viewing most of the wildlife as they gather to drink and bathe in one place. The Kazinga Channel is one of the great birding spots in Uganda and Africa. You will see all kinds of water birds feeding close to giant crocodiles, elephants and hippos.
Day 3 – Chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura Gorge – Transfer to Ishasha for Tree Climbing Lions
Wake up early and prepare to be taken for briefing at the starting point in Kyambura Gorge. is an underground forest that was created by secondary faulting after the formation of the East African rift valley. A vast forest grew in this valley which became a favorite for many primates, birds and other wildlife. There was once a natural forest corridor that connecting the underground forest to mainland forests like Maramagambo and Kalinzu but this was recently destroyed by humans. The destruction of this forest corridor left the chimpanzee population in the gorge trapped. They cannot use the savanna plains to reach nearby forests for fear of being attacked by predators. Scientists worry about inbreeding and genetic mutations within the chimpanzee community here. Luckily, a new forest corridor is coming up that will allow the chimps to meet other clans at different places.
Tourist visits to Kyambura Gorge offer an opportunity to see this unique gorge characterized by its rich biodiversity that has made chimpanzee trekking possible. It can be strenuous because you will have to hike up and down the steep gorge. You need to mentally prepare yourself for the challenge so as not to get surprised by it. After tracking chimps, you will have lunch before being transferred to Ishasha sector in search of tree climbing lions which are famous for climbing trees in Ugandan parks like Queen Elizabeth National Park. This is the reason why lions would like to rest above fig trees during hot daily hours but sometimes are found overlooking or even sleeping there at night.
Day 4 – Morning Game Drive in Ishasha – Transfer to Kampala
The day’s game drive will start early so that visitors can have an opportunity to see more lions and other animals that lie within this section. The landscape of Ishasha differs from that of Kasenyi, hence it is possible to get a unique experience there. In the course of the journey, you can stop at Igongo cultural centre for some lunch before proceeding onwards towards Kampala. This may also be a good time for you to check out the centre if you did not have enough time on your first day as well as to learn about Ankole people’s culture. Thereafter, following approximately the same route and bypassing the equator crossing expect to arrive in Entebbe sometime between 6 – 7 pm.
