Safari Overview
The 14 Days Burundi, Rwanda, and Uganda Safari offers you the opportunity to explore and enjoy beautiful safari destinations, watching wildlife species in their natural habitats across Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi.
Day 1: Arrival and Pick-Up
Your guide will pick you up and brief you about the safari itinerary. You’ll visit the burial chamber of Prince Louis Rwagasore, a hero of Burundi’s independence. Then, climb to the “Belvedere” for a unique view over Lake Tanganyika and enjoy entertainment by Burundi Drummers.
Day 2: Kalera Waterfalls and Burundi National Museum
After an early breakfast, drive south to visit “La Pierre de Stanley et Livingstone,” the commemorative stone marking where Stanley and Livingstone rested during their quest to find the source of the Nile. Visit the spectacular Kalera Falls. In the afternoon, travel to Gitega to visit the Burundi National Museum before returning to your hotel in Bujumbura for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest
After breakfast, drive for about 6 hours to Nyungwe Forest National Park in Rwanda, passing through the beautiful hilly countryside that gives Rwanda its nickname, “the land of a thousand hills.” After lunch, trek through the forest in pursuit of Blue monkeys and Angolan Colobus monkeys. Spend the night at Gisakura Lodge.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking in Nyungwe Forest
Track chimpanzees in Nyungwe, a dense forest with numerous animal trails. Your guided walk may last up to 2 hours. After lunch, transfer to Butare to visit the Historical Museum of Rwanda. Spend the night at Ibis Hotel.
Day 5: Transfer to Kigali
Visit the Rwanda National Museum and the Genocide Memorial site. After breakfast, visit the Rwandan National Museum and then transfer to Kigali. Visit the Rwanda Genocide Memorial to learn about the tragic events of 1994. Spend the night in Kigali.
Day 6: Transfer to Gisenyi
After breakfast, visit the Genocide Memorial Museum and then drive to Gisenyi town at the shore of Lake Kivu. Stop for lunch in Ruhengeri at Muhabura Hotel. After lunch, drive to Gisenyi and enjoy a performance by the Intore Traditional dancers.
Day 7: Gorilla Trekking in Virunga National Park
Wake up early and proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing on how to conduct yourself while with the gorillas. Meet your guide and start the trek to your allocated gorilla group. The trek’s duration varies based on the gorillas’ location and weather conditions. Meeting these magnificent creatures is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Day 8: Climbing Mt. Nyiragongo Volcano
Begin your climb up Mt. Nyiragongo. Arrive at the summit in the late afternoon and spend the evening observing the spectacular lava lake. This rare experience makes you one of the lucky few to witness such a phenomenon.
Day 9: Descend Mt. Nyiragongo Volcano
Have breakfast at the mountain top and start descending at 7:00 am. Arrive in Kibati village around 10 or 11:00 am, meet your driver, and transfer to Goma. Enjoy a short city tour of Goma after lunch and relax at your hotel.
Day 10: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
Cross over to Uganda, “the Pearl of Africa,” and proceed to Lake Bunyonyi. Go for a cultural walk on the lake’s southwestern shores to view local villages. Enjoy a canoe ride in the afternoon before returning for dinner and an overnight stay at Bunyonyi Overland Resort.
Day 11: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast, take a short walk in a nearby village in Bunyonyi before transferring to Queen Elizabeth National Park, a 4-hour drive. In the southern sector of Ishasha, you can see tree-climbing lions and other wildlife. After lunch, enjoy a unique 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel and into Lake Edward, providing excellent opportunities for photography, bird watching, and game viewing. Spend the night in Kasese at Ruwenzori International Inn or Mweya Lodge.
Day 12: Transfer to Jinja
After an early breakfast, go on a game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park to spot lions, topis, elephants, Uganda Kobs, and buffaloes. After the game drive, transfer to Jinja, driving through the scenic Ankole countryside. Stop for lunch in Mbarara and take a break at the Equator for photos before continuing to Jinja via Kampala. Spend the night at Triangle Hotel or Nile Resort.
Day 13: Fun Activities in Jinja and Transfer to Entebbe
Dedicate this day to fun activities such as rafting, quad biking, and bungee jumping. You can also visit the source of the River Nile if time permits. Later, transfer to Entebbe for a night.
Day 14: Departure from Entebbe Airport
After breakfast, visit local markets or craft shops for souvenir shopping. Then, transfer to the airport for your flight back with beautiful memories of Africa.
