Uganda Birding and Wildlife Itinerary
The 13 Days Uganda Birding Safari introduces us to a few of the best areas like Budongo forest, Kibale and Lake Mburo. We will head specifically for the Albertine Rift endemic species while leave no stone unturned in exploring thick forests loaded with beautiful birds. On top of that, there will be drives that are meant to look for Africa’s ‘big game’ and then we shall have one day dedicated solely for chimp tracking.

Day 1: Flight to Entebbe
Today, we plan to arrive around evening when we will be picked up on arrival before being transported to the lovely Sophie’s Hotel.
Day 2: Mabamba Swamp or Kasanje
After a good rest and breakfast, we will visit swamps near Entebbe on the vast shores of Lake Victoria. Here, we stand an excellent chance to encounter Uganda’s most famous bird, the Shoebill. We will also look for a variety of herons, ducks, and other water birds, including Black Crake, African Jacana, and Malachite Kingfisher. After our boat trip, we will transfer to Lake Mburo, with birding and lunch en route. In the evening, we will enjoy a game drive. One night at Mantana Tented Camp.
Day 3: Bwindi
Today we will observe birds and mammals in the area surrounding Lake Mburo. Expect to see a black-faced barbet, Tabora cisticola and a yellow-billed duck; if fortune favours us, we might even cross paths with zebras or elands topios as well as impalas. After a boat ride for African finfoot and dwarf bittern, we will proceed to Bwindi where we will spend our next four nights at Trekker’s Tavern Cottages.
Day 4: Bwindi – Mubwindi Swamp
Mubwindi swamp harbours among others the African green broadbill plus other Albertine Rift endemics. Late afternoon birdwatching around camp offers best opportunities for seeing them. Consequently, overnight stays are facilitated by Trekker’s Tavern Cottages.
Day 5: Bwindi – Mountain Gorilla Trek
Start early morning treks across the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park mostly concerning tracking mountain gorillas and suchlike matters; there exist birding alternatives too, even without taking part in trekkin’. Today’s overnight stay is again at Trekker’s Tavern Cottages.
Day 6: Bwindi – Bamboo Zone
The birdwatching in the Bamboo Zone includes species such Handsome Francolin and Red-throated Alethe. In the afternoon, do some birding around camp and primary road school. You may encounter African Wood Owl and Rwenzori Nightjar during late evening hours. Night stay at Trekker’s Tavern Cottages.
Day 7: Bwindi – Buhoma
Drive to Buhoma while stopping for birds along the way. Bird “the neck,” a perfect birding spot. Two nights at Engagi Lodge.
Day 8: Buhoma
Bird Buhoma main trail looking for Olive-Long-tailed Cuckoo, Red-chested Owlet among several others. Return to Engagi Lodge for dinner.
Day 9: Buhoma – Queen Elizabeth National Park
You will drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, stopping at Ishasha sector on the way for birdwatching. There will be tree-climbing lions and birds of the savannah to see. Overnight will be spent at Savannah Resort.
Day 10: Queen Elizabeth National Park – Fort Portal
While on our way to Fort Portal, we will engage in birdwatching. Overnight will be spent at Primate Lodge Cottages.
Day 11: Kibale National Park – Chimp Trek – Bigodi Wetland
In the morning, we will visit Kibale National Park for chimpanzees and watch birds. An afternoon walk is scheduled for Bigodi wetlands and spending the night at Tooro Resort.
Day 12: Fort Portal – Kampala – Evening Flight
Transfer back to Kampala where Kibale Forest can be found on route! Last legs of your trip will lead you to Entebbe for going back home through international flights.
Day 13: Arrive Back Home
Arrive back home.
